Philanthropy in Simple Terms
The philosophy of philanthropy can been summarized in four words, “helping people help themselves.” While it may sound simplistic, philanthropy is all about the choices you have, whether you are an individual, a family, business or corporation. You have the an area of interest you would like to address or find an opportunity that peeks your interest, then you need to ask your self the following questions:
- Which problem (within the area of interest) would you like to address?
-
What other issues, forces, or problems relate to this problem?
-
What resources could you bring to solving this problem?
-
Who else is working on some part of the problem?
-
How can you learn more about what others are doing?
If these questions appear overwhelming, then maybe you could use a sounding board to assist you in identifying the issues(s), or compiling the necessary information. You do not have to endeavor alone in your quest to fulfill your philanthropic goals. Your community foundation is here to help. We are investing time and resources in compiling information about our area non-profit and the needs they are addressing. We have outside resources that can provide insights into projects underway in other communities served by other community foundations.
